History
The Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development began in 1988. After the loss of a major employer in Hays occurred during the time when the local agricultural and agribusiness sectors remained repressed and worldwide there was a decline in oil prices, no dimension of the local or regional economy escaped the downturn. It was at this time that both public and private Ellis County community leaders began to realize there was a problem and needed to find a solution. And the Coalition was formed as a result.
